A number of felines live all their lives without any ear problems even though their owners do not clean them. However, sometimes cats can suffer from ear mites. The most common symptom is dark stinky wax in the ears. Ear mites, if left untreated, can cause an infection of the middle ear. Treatment should be prescribed by a veterinarian.
A feline’s ear may be cleaned only with a special cleanser. With an eyedropper or a syringe insert several drops of the cleanser into the ear canal, thoroughly massage the ear and clean it with a cotton ball or a soft piece of fabric. Ears must be cleaned carefully, so that the wax does not get deeper into the ear.
